Antique Jewelry
Antique jewelry means old-fashioned jewelry. To term it an "antique", the jewelry at least 70 years old. There could be gems related from generation to generation, and it also includes jewelry with a historic value. They are coveted not only for the value of money. Rather, they are relics from a memorable past.
There are different types of antique jewelry. The most common are real estate antique jewelry, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco and Art Nouveau.
Estateantique jewelry pieces are the most recent pre-owned. These are distinguished in the processing. The pieces are generally small, compared to new jewelry prices. This type of jewelry is often sold. Some of the most popular pieces are engagement rings, wedding rings, necklaces, bracelets and pendants.
The elegance of the Victorian era is captured in antique Victorian jewelry. A particular type of Victorian jewelry was hair jewelry. Hair strands were saved and later turned into ornate hair jewelrysuch as watch chains, bracelets and rings. Hair jewelry served the purpose, a very personal memory of the time of departure or death. Today, antique hair jewelry is valued at hundreds or thousands of dollars, depending on the condition of the piece.
The period 1920 to 1935 is referred to as the Art Deco period. It produced dazzling pieces in bright colors and straight lines. Long earrings were a popular part of the Art Deco jewelry. The antique art deco jewelry is occupiedwith emeralds, sapphires and rubies. These are the stones for a queen. Needless to say, they are exorbitant and rare.
Art Nouveau jewelry was in the years 1890-1919 very popular. motifs used in this jewelry were inspired by nature. Butterflies, dragons, orchids, lilies and snakes were popular motifs preferred. The widespread use of precious and semiprecious stones, horn, copper shell, tortoiseshell, ivory and shells was the norm.
The short span from 1901 to 1915 iscalled, from the Edwardian era. Edwardian jewelry was taken diamonds and pearls in platinum, creating intricate patterns.
